LOS ANGELES -- Zack Greinke came within one strike of his fifth career shutout, Hanley Ramirez and Yasiel Puig homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-2 Monday night, ending a two-game skid. Michel Briere Penguins Jersey . The Cubs lost for the eighth straight time to the Dodgers, including a four-game sweep at Wrigley Field earlier this month. The Dodgers equaled their longest winning streak against the Cubs in franchise history, set from June 9, 1974-May 19, 1975. Greinke (13-3) tied his season high with nine strikeouts and he walked two while improving to 5-0 this month. The right-hander has won 10 of 11 decisions since June 22. Greinke helped himself offensively, too, with a two-out hit in the fourth that scored the Dodgers first run. After giving up a single to Starlin Castro to open the game, Greinke retired the next 13 batters before Donnie Murphy singled in the fifth. Greinke got the first two outs of the ninth before running into trouble. Anthony Rizzo doubled, then Greinke hit Nate Schierholtz before Brian Bogusevics RBI double scored Chicagos two runs. Brian Wilson came in to strike out Murphy for the final out. Greinke issued consecutive one-out walks to Murphy and Welington Castillo in the eighth before Darwin Barney grounded into a fielders choice to third. Murphy advanced to third and Castillo was out at second. The Dodgers thought they had completed the double play, but second baseman Mark Ellis throw didnt beat Barney to first, leading Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to shout, "Out!" from the dugout. Greinke then got pinch-hitter Dioner Navarro to ground out to third, ending the inning. Jake Arrieta (1-1) gave up four runs and six hits in five-plus innings, struck out three and walked five in his first road start for the Cubs since being acquired on July 2 from Baltimore. Puig hit his 13th homer on his first pitch from Michael Bowden with two outs in the eighth. Ramirez homered off Carlos Villanueva with one out in the seventh, extending the Dodgers lead to 5-0. Los Angeles had tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth on Nick Puntos RBI double and Carl Crawfords sacrifice fly that made it 4-0. The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on two-out hits by Greinke and Crawford. Greinkes single scored A.J. Ellis, who walked, while Crawfords ground-rule double to deep left scored Punto, who walked. Notes: Dodgers OF Matt Kemp got a day off from rehabbing the sprained left ankle that has had him on the DL since July 24. He will run the bases on Tuesday and Wednesday. "When you start running the bases youre usually getting closer," Mattingly said. ... The Cubs fell to 30-35 on the road, where they are better than at home (25-41). ... The Dodgers clinched the 15th calendar month with 20 or more wins since 1958. Their previous was a 20-8 mark in May 2010. Pittsburgh Penguins Gear . Subbans power-play goal 4:08 into overtime sent the Montreal Canadiens into the All-Star break with a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.TORONTO, Ontario - The Leafs wont restart their schedule until Thursday against the New York Islanders but for Randy Carlyle, the Olympic break is now nothing but a distant memory. As far as hes concerned, its time to get back to business. "We were playing at a pretty high level and now were expecting to take the next step," said the Leafs head coach after the teams annual outdoor practice on Friday at Greenwood Park in front of several hundred fans. "Were going to have to play to a higher level to have success here in the last 22 games." That message of aspiring to a higher level of play is one that Carlyle has continually preached throughout the season, whether the team was going through a rough stretch as they did in mid-December and early January or experiencing success as they did heading into the Olympic break. Posting an 11-2-1 record in the fourteen games that preceded the break built the Leafs a seven-point cushion on the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals for the final playoff spot but with the Jackets holding two games in hand and the Senators and Capitals each holding one, that gap could shrink quickly if they trip up out of the gate. "It was a time to recharge the batteries but for us its about now getting our team ready for Thursday," said Carlyle. "Thats the most important thing on our plate is to make sure our hockey club picks up where it left off." Given how well the team played heading into the break, that wont be an easy task for several reasons. Firstly, a 14-game stretch that saw them win 11 times (78 per cent of their games) is likely an unsustainable pace. Seventeen wins in their final 22 games is a lot to ask. TThe key will be to make sure they dont experience too significant a drop off. Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys. Secondly, the schedule wont be a cake walk. The Leafs will play 22 games in 45 nights, 13 of them on the road. 14 of those games will be against teams currently in playoff positions. The real test will come on a five-game road trip March 10-18 when they head out west to face the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings before making stops in Washington and Detroit. Additionally, Toronto will face four more sets of games on back-to-back nights. Safe to say, the time for rest has come and gone. "The Olympic break for us, we feel good coming back," said Dion Phaneuf. "We feel rested, we feel rejuvenated and I think its beneficial for everyone to have that." The positive aspect of the break is that with David Bolland nearing a return and so long as James Van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel get through the bronze medal game at the Olympics injury-free, the Leafs should be able to ice their optimal lineup for the first time this season. Believe it or not, due to suspensions and injuries, Bolland, Tyler Bozak, David Clarkson and Joffrey Lupul have yet to all be dressed in the same game.
